It was a bit mucky to read though it. The authors used strange terminology fly-out instead of drop-down menu was confusing. The book was also inconsistent on how it approached exercises.

Sometimes the required actions were clearly marked and numbered and other times it was buried in paragraphs and again hard to understand the terminology. Also by the time we got to the end of the book we had already learned and practiced the “new” information from the book.

If learning on your own may not be a bad step by step guide. I found through following the text coupled with a student version of Revit Architecture to be very helpful in concentrating on the overall capabilities of the program.

This book is much more helpful than exploring the software on your own with no guidance. It is obvious that the authors are very well versed in the software and use it in a real world setting. However, it is not written for someone new to CAD. Much of the vocabulary and nomenclature used in the text pertaining to computer aided drafting are not defined. If you are new to computer aided drafting this is not the book for you. The underlying tone of the book assumes that you know AutoCAD well.

Hi, I am just starting to work through the turorials in the Essentials book, I have also downloaded the chapter files to autodesk revit architecture 2014 essentials free the book. When I open one of the files I downloaded to accompany the book, I can indeed select a Generic Wall type. I have gone through all the default templates, I have repaired autoodesk updated my software, which I’m assuming the Autodesk Application Manager does automatically anyway.

Still can’t find the Generic Wall Family, is it possible I have lost this file during installation? As a beginner I would think rdvit is something I have done, when I open a template I save as another file name straight away, to ensure I do not alter the default autdoesk files.

This will open the default arch template specified in the Revit Options which is still most likely the UK Template.
