I had no idea what to expect from this. Once I saw the Unreal logo I wasn’t expecting much as I’m so tired of the same Unreal gameplay just in different clothing. But Bulletstorm is something else. You’re some military operative in the future and in space who has been deceived by some wicked commander to do all sorts of unsavory things. Now you find yourself on some planet and out for revenge. You’re joined with a fellow soldier who due to some accident is turned into half a droid. Later you meet the obligatory tough chick who is the daughter of a journalist who was ordered killed.

The AI team play here is real nice. And the dialogue while very adolescent gives the game character and keeps things entertaining and lighthearted.

Fortunately there are not countless audio log and video logs that you have to put up with, but the story is told by the characters. Something different about this game is your ability to kick things down and kick enemies around as well as yank things toward you with a leash. There are truly lots of fun ways to kill the enemies by taking advantage of the environment. Weapons-wise I particularly enjoyed the rifle that allows you to guide the bullet.

Another thing that’s always enjoyable is when you have enemies that are funny, here some of them taunt you and mock you. There are a couple of bosses to many. There are a variety of settings, outdoors, indoors. The few things I didn’t like include the way you resupply yourself- you have to leash on to a drop kit and from there press a combination of space-bar and return key dozens of times to get ammo and change weapons.

The other “problem” is that this game is fairly short. Very annoying when you are having so much fun. This is the best use of Unreal yet and I can’t wait for part II. One person found this helpful.
